Information on the Breed Standard, Training, Diet, Health, & Shows/Trials
The Doberman Pinscher originated in Germany in the late 1800's and was primarily used as a personal protection dog. Today, properly bred and trained Doberman's can make loyal and loving family companions.
The Doberman is a compact, medium sized dog with a powerful, muscular build for speed and endurance. They are a watchful, loyal, energetic, determined, alert, and obedient breed that requires regular training, mental stimulation, and exercise. Their coat is smooth and short, requiring minimal grooming. Allowable colours are black, red, blue, and fawn, all with distinct rust coloured markings on the muzzle, throat, forechest, legs, feet, tail, and above the eyes. Gait should be balanced and effortless. |
The Australian Shepherd is a working stockdog developed in America. Their strong working and guardian instincts made them ideal farm dogs. Today, they are still used to work stock, but can also make good companions for active families.
Aussies are a medium sized breed built for incredible speed, endurance, and agility. They are a versatile breed that is easy to train, but require a lot of exercise, regular training, and mental stimulation. Their medium length, weatherproof coat requires regular grooming. Allowable colours are blue merle, red merle, solid black, and solid red all with or without white markings and/or tan points. Gait should be smooth, effortless, and well-balanced. |
Training
Training should begin the day that you bring your new puppy home and continue throughout the life of your dog.
Conformation
In a conformation event, each dog is judged on how well they conform to the recognized breed standard. Judges concentrate on distinctive features of the breed to determine which dog(s) most closely represent the ideal standard. Breed winners move on to compete for Group 1st and Group 1st winners move on to compete for Best in Show.
Agility
Dobermans excel at the team based sport known as agility. In agility, the handler guides the dog through a series of obstacles in a race against the clock. Agility requires a solid obedience foundation and many hours of practice and body conditioning.

Rally
In a rally trial, the handler and dog are required to work as a team to complete a series of commands and/or obstacles. Each team starts with a certain number of points and points are deducted for each fault, based on severity of the fault. The highest scoring team will rank 1st and/or High in Class.
