Are You Looking for a Puppy?
What should you look for when searching for your puppy?
The breeder's focus should be improvement and preservation of the breed in accordance with CKC/AKC approved breed standards. The goal is to achieve superior conformation, performance, health, and temperament. Puppies should be raised in home. Parents should be health tested and titled in conformation and/or other sports. Reputable breeders will invite you into their homes to meet their dogs and/or pick up your puppy. What can you expect?
Reputable breeders normally have a waiting list. There may be circumstances that create immediate availability for puppies, but you should expect to wait at least 6 months to 1 year for a well bred dog. Retired show or breeding dogs may also be available, if you are considering adding a mature dog to your home. Where can you find a reputable breeder? Breed club websites are a great place to start. They will have a breeder directly page with information for breeders that are also members in good standing. This means that they abide by the code of conduct/ethics of the club. The CKC and AKC websites are also good ways to search for breeders. Below are some helpful links: |
